LA is known as the "City of Angels" but I like to call this beautiful city home. I've lived here my entire life and I consider myself lucky to have grown up in such an eclectic place. We have awesome year round weather, diverse cultures, amazing food from all around the world, beautiful beaches, breathtaking views, cool neighborhoods and hidden gems all over the city. So whats not to love about LA, right? So when Charlotte Russe approached me about doing a blog post about giving a mini tour of some of my favorite places in Los Angeles, I couldn't resist!
So I put together a small list of some of my favorite spots in LA. I hope you get to visit them and enjoy them as much as I do.. =)
Antigua Bakery - This little gem in Highland Park has the best Latin American breakfast and pastries. The "Antigua breakfast" is my personal favorite!
Toast Bakery Café - If you happen to be in West Hollywood definitely stop by here for your morning bite. I recommend the berry wonderful french toast (my all time favorite french toast), eggwich breakfast sandwich and the much needed banana peanut butter smoothie.
Balcones del Peru - If you love steak and fries this is the place for you. My favorite is the lomo saltado and the mixed ceviche but it's not a complete Peruvian meal without an Inca cola (Peruvian soft drink) so make sure to order it.
Bar Amá - If you want the perfect Mexican trio order the jicama salad, roasted corn and the mom's green enchiladas. Also you must try the snake's blood and ama's margarita cocktails.
Mateo's ice cream and fruit bars - My little paleta heaven! They have water, juice and dairy based popsicles. My two favorites are the pineapple and the watermelon water based paletas. Yum!
'Lette Macarons - These are by far my favorite macaroons in LA! Try the salted caramel, raspberry and caribbean chocolate.
Salt & Straw - If you're a salted caramel fanatic like me, I recommend the salted caramel ice cream on a waffle cone! Delish!
Things to do:
Echo Park - Great for people watching and enjoying some of LA's yummy street food. Some of my favorites are the tamarindo or vanilla raspados (Mexican shaved ice), elotes (corn on the cob), bacon wrapped hotdogs and cotton candy. You can also rent a paddleboat for a scenic ride on the lake or just sit and relax under the palm trees.
Vista Hermosa Natural Park - There's a reason why it's called "Vista Hermosa" (beautiful view), this little hideaway park has a killer view of downtown LA. It's the perfect park to have a picnic or to spend some alone time to read a book or nap under the trees.
The Last Bookstore - Is California's largest used and new book and record store. Not only can you find great books and records you can also find other goodies like candles, jewelry and paintings that are all made in LA by local artist.
LACMA - A well curated museum with a wide range of different arts that's surrounded by beautiful landscapes. My two favorite being the urban lights and levitated mass, which are perfect for photo ops! ;D Make sure to check out their website to see future exhibitions.
